Being touted as one of the wealthiest women in the whole of Spain, Maria del Rosario is now out to pursue her passion, this time not to add anything to the nearly $5 billion she is worth, but sharing it out to get married to the man of her dreams.
The 85 years old Duchess of Alba will not have anything stand on the way of her dream as she seeks to be joined in marriage with Alfonso Diez, a civil servant who is 24 years her junior. Not even her children who were initially skeptical about her nuptials.
To make a point that Alfonso is not interested in her fortune, she has decided to give her wealth to her children and pursue her wedding dreams, saying that her new suitor is interested in nothing but her soul.
If all goes on as planned, this will be the duchess third marriage. Her first marriage to Pedro Luis Martinez de Irujo y Artazcoz, lasted until 1972, the year her husband passed on leaving her with six children. In 1978, the duchess entered into her second marriage with Aguirre y Ortiz de Zarate, who died in 2001.
As the duchess distributes her wealth to her children to be married to a man who’s 24 years younger, many people are wondering whether it’s about the love being blind or she shouldn’t want her new suitor to enjoy the fruit of the land he has not tilled.
