As police confirm the sudden death of Kenya’s Samuel Wanjiru, there were major warning signs that the Olympic Marathon champion’s life was in danger and that something needed to have been done fast. Wanjiru’s death came
moments after he quarreled with his wife who unexpectedly found him with another woman in their Nyahururu residence, about 110 miles west of Nairobi, Kenya. He’s said to have jumped from the top floor of their house, where he suffered fatal injuries. The Olympic marathon hero was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
The Olympic champion’s death comes months after an incident of threatening to shoot his wife, leading to his arrest and consequent charge of threatening to kill and possessing an illegal weapon. The wife immediately filed for divorce but she withdrew it from the court after they reconciled on Valentine’s day. The 24 year old Olympic marathon champion was also recovering from an injury he suffered recently from a bad car crash.
It’s not a secret that Wanjiru has been struggling with an unhappy relationship, choosing to lead a double life that has led to his early and saddening death.
Signs of unhappy relationships should not be ignored. These may include frustrations and depressive symptoms arising from the strained relationship. Unhappy couples withdraw from each other and have no time for intimacy. There is little love and no respect. Thoughts of suicide or revenge rein and partners become abusive to each other.
This may lead to affairs, separations or divorce even creating more problems to kids.
Don’t wait for too long. If you are in an unhappy relationship or living with an abusive partner, you need to take quick actions before it leads to your poor health, physical harm or demise. If both of you can identify the issues that are ruining your relationship, you may want to consider consulting a marriage counselor and see whether it’s wise to end your relationship amicably or how to move forward.
